The Visionary Projects is delighted to be hosting the "Designing Your Mixed Media Identity" travel workshop with international artist AM DeBrincat in Los Angeles.

AM DeBrincat is a mixed-media artist based in Brooklyn, New York. In this workshop, artists will learn a variety of specific techniques - transfer printing, acrylic tinting, gold leafing, and an introduction to oil painting - and learn how to combine these techniques into dynamic mixed-media paintings. Students are invited to bring images of previous work to the workshop so that AM can offer each participant personalized feedback and advice.

Please arrive in Los Angeles on Wednesday, March 6th
and depart on Monday, March 11th (or later).

+ Each workshop day there is a full breakfast -
+ Lunch will be also provided in the same style - different food each day -
+ There will be several options for both vegan + vegetarians -

Day 1: Thursday, March 7
Course Intro & Presentation

  • 10:00 am: Breakfast
  • Workshop & Personal Introductions
  • Quick intro to Studio Safety (many of these art supplies are toxic - techniques for working safely with them)

  • Introduction to Oil Painting with Demo 

  • Setting up your palette, mixing colors, beginning a painting

  • Learning to paint using a wet-on-wet technique (also called alla prima)

  • How to build up color and form to create a beautiful painting

  • Some easy tips to avoid common oil painting pitfalls and mistakes

  • Studio time to work on your own painting. AM will be there to answer questions and help students one-on-one

  • Afternoon lecture/Q & A about Reference photos: How to take or find good reference photos, what to look for and how to transform a reference photo into a painting

  • Portfolio Review: AM will meet with each workshop participant to review your past work, discuss your work with you, and offer personalized feedback and advice (AM will meet with a few participants each day so that each participant gets all the time they need with AM one-on-one)  

Day 2: Friday March 8
INTRO TO TRANSFER PRINTING & ACRYLIC TINTING

  • 10:00 am: Breakfast
  • Introduction to Transfer Printing
  • Demo: How to make a transfer print
  • Participants will start their own transfer prints
  • LUNCH
  • Participants will continue with their transfer prints
  • Demo of acrylic tinting - how to add color to your transfer print
  • Students continue with their transfer prints and try acrylic tinting (AM will be on hand to offer feedback and answer any questions)
  • Portfolio Review: AM will meet with each workshop participant to review your past work, discuss your work with you, and offer personalized feedback and advice (AM will meet with a few participants each day so that each participant gets all the time they need with AM one-on-one) 

Day 3: Saturday, March 9
INTRO TO GOLD LEAF

  • 10:00 am: Breakfast
  • Introduction to Using Gold Leaf
  • Demo: How to use gold leaf in a painting
  • Tips & Tricks for making gold leaf simple to use
  • Participants will get a chance to apply gold leaf to a previous painting or start a new piece that includes gold leaf
  • LUNCH
  • Continue working with gold leaf, continue with previous paintings or start a new painting
  • Lecture and Q & A: How to Combine the Techniques we've learned (oil painting, transfer printing, acrylic tinting, and gold leaf) to Create a mixed-media painting
  • Portfolio Review: AM will meet with each workshop participant to review your past work, discuss your work with you, and offer personalized feedback and advice (AM will meet with a few participants each day so that each participant gets all the time they need with AM one-on-one) 

Day 4: Sunday, March 10
Making it as an artist

  • 10:00 am: Breakfast

  • Lecture / Q&A: How to build an art career, having your own studio, social media presence, etc.

  • Work - Studio Time

  • Pick up where you left or start a brand new piece

  • 1:30 pm: Lunch

  • 2:00 pm: Prepare yourself for the last steps of finishing your artwork

  • One by One sessions to answer any individual questions about anything we've learned

  • 6:30pm: Group Presentation

Once the workshop is filled, you will be invited into a private Facebook Group to meet everyone participating beforehand. This is where a lot of information about the workshop will be shared and we can coordinate what will be happening throughout your time in Los Angeles.

We will announce our exact studio location approx. 3 months before the workshop through private group message.

The Visionary Projects is taking this event to downtown Los Angeles. (exact location revealed in private Facebook group)

Everything is set up for you to work: tables, easels, projector, art supplies, the list goes on. All you have to do is show up with your art essentials, a good notebook and a camera.

During this workshop, we create individual workstations for all participants, as well as a demonstration & lecture space for the instructor. Aside from a gourmet breakfast and lunch - endless coffee, wine and snacks will be provided throughout each day of the workshop.

 
 

CANCELLATION POLICY

  • A full refund will be made if for any unexpected reason the workshop is canceled.
     
  • If you withdraw from the trip after making your initial deposit (in the full or half amount), you will receive a 50% refund of your deposit up until 90 days to the event.
     
  • You may purchase traveler's insurance in the event of an unexpected circumstance (death in the family, accident, illness) that would require you cancel your trip.
