Acclaimed professional artist and fashion illustrator Hodaya is recognized internationally for her creative flair. Her art skills were nurtured from the outset by her father, artist David Louis, and honed through her education and her extensive professional experience. Hodaya has completed multiple abstract commissions to private residences as well as several  commercial murals, including the Tribeca Featured Film "Egg" (2018).  Lately, she collaborated with ethical New-York label Livari Clothing heavily covered by major media outlets. Hodaya continues to hone her art and participates in creative opportunities to create art but also to appraise and promote it, including as a guest judge and speaker at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where she also studied.

DAY 1 - Friday, February 8

INTROduction + Demos
/ 10AM - 4PM

  • Start a new piece using one reference photo. We will cover the following topics via short demos throughout the day.     

    • Illustrating the face  - basic anatomy, proportions and shapes 

    • Charcoal techniques, composition and line quality

    • Watercolor 101, techniques and helpful tips

    • Creating highlights and Textures

    • Various surfaces and how to prep them  - paper and canvas

Day 2 - Saturday, February 9

Beauty in the Details
/ 10am - 4pm

  • We will focus and individual style and application of the techniques learned. Start a new piece or continue using techniques from previous day. We will learn the following: 

    • Color theory in skin tones     

    • Skin tones recipes in various media - (watercolor, colored pencils, oil pastels)   

    • Layering rules wet and dry media - oil pastels and acrylic markers

    • Transferring image techniques

    • Demos: Eyes and hair with wet & Dry media 

DAY 3 - Sunday, February 10

Full Day Studio Time
/ 10AM - 4pm

  • Continue working on portrait or start your own Self portrait (Bring your own photos). 

    • How to paint metallic & Gold leaf applications

    • Mixed media finishing, sealing and preservation techniques 

    • Class overview and final exhibit, and personal discussion with each student. 

What we provide you:

Canvas, Oil Pastels, Watercolor paper cold and hot press, Masking fluid, Acrylic gel medium, Gesso - white and clear, absorbent ground, clear acrylic finishing spray matte and gloss, charcoal, electric eraser, palette knives, electric sharpener, acetone, artist's tape, ruler, exacto knives, q-tips, paper towels.

What you need to bring:

— Artist grade Watercolor set of 12 or more
recommended options:

— Watercolor brushes various sizes (oval. wash, flat)
Molotow Acrylic Markers (assorted, set of 6)
Prismacolor Colored Pencils (assorted)

With a private loft studio in one of the most creative neighborhoods in Miami, everything will be set up for you to work: tables, easels, art supplies, the list goes on. During this workshop, we create individual workstations for all participants, as well as a demonstration & lecture space for the instructor. Endless coffee, wine and snacks will be provided throughout each day.

We typically take professional photographic images & short video footage throughout the duration of the course. These are private images, for you to keep as well whether for personal or professional use.

  • All final payments are due by Friday, February 1st, 2019

  • If you withdraw from the trip after making your initial deposit (in the full or half amount), you will receive a 50% refund of your deposit up until 60 days to the event.

  • You may purchase traveler's insurance in the event of an unexpected circumstance (death in the family, accident, illness) that would require you cancel your trip.
