Untraditional Tools &
Techniques for Oil Painting

October 5-8, 2018

The Visionary Projects is delighted to be hosting the "Untraditional Tools & Techniques for Oil Painting" travel workshop with international San Francisco-based abstract artist Lindsey Kustusch here in Rome, Italy.

“Think outside of the brush” and explore the versatility of oil paint in this highly expressive and unique four-day workshop. Setting aside the traditional methods, students will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of non-traditional tools and techniques, combining abstraction with refined detail. The focus will be on “how-to” break down a scene simply, using basic design elements, while practicing various ways to apply the paint to create an expressive end result.

We will experiment with “indirect” and “alla-prima” oil painting methods, working in the studio and outdoors. We will also discuss painting from a photograph and the benefits of using technology as well as the importance of studying from life.

Oil painting has a reputation for having strict rules, stifling do’s and don’ts, and sometimes a discouraging amount of the unknown…. So the goal for this course is to shine a new light on this medium and see it not as a palette full of restrictions, but one of opportunity for creative growth and inspiration. The world is limitless when it comes to oil paint, so it’s time to experiment, have some fun, and make it work for YOU!"
